General Event Selection Rules


Any stroke swum in an A Meet CANNOT be chosen for the subsequent B Meet (this includes exhibition swims). Each event can only be swum once in a given week, no exceptions.

Coach approval is required for the following strokes.  If your swimmer is unsure whether he/she can swim these strokes legally, please consult the Coach before selecting these.

  • Breaststroke
  • Butterfly
  • Individual Medley (IM)

8&Under Event Selection Rules


Any stroke swum in an A Meet CANNOT be chosen for the subsequent B Meet (this includes unofficial swims). Each event can only be swum once in a given week, no exceptions.

  • 6 & Unders may choose from:
    • 25M Freestyle
    • 25M Backstroke
    • 25M Breaststroke (Coach approval required).
  • 8 & Unders may choose from:
    • 25M Freestyle
    • 25M Backstroke
    • 25M Breaststroke (Coach approval required)
    • 25M Butterfly (Coach approval required)
    • IM (Coach approval required - see below)
  • Swimmers who did NOT participate in the prior A Meet may choose 2 strokes for a RIBBON.
  • Swimmers who swam 1 stroke in the prior A Meet may choose:
    • 1 different stroke for a RIBBON and 
    • 1 additional different stroke for UNOFFICIAL.
  • Swimmers who swam 2 strokes in the prior A Meet may choose:
    • 2 different strokes for UNOFFICIAL.
  • As a general rule, 8 & Unders will not swim IM—but exceptions may be made at the Coach’s discretion. If an 8 & Under is approved to swim IM, the 9 & Over rules for event selection apply (see below)

9&Over Event Selection Rules


Any stroke swum in an A Meet CANNOT be chosen for the subsequent B Meet (this includes unofficial swims). Each event can only be swum once in a given week, no exceptions.

  • Swimmers who did NOT participate in the prior A Meet may choose 2 strokes for a RIBBON, plus IM.
  • Swimmers who swam 1 stroke in the prior A Meet may choose:
    • 1 different stroke for a RIBBON and
    • 1 additional different stroke for UNOFFICIAL, and
    • IM (with Coach approval)
  • Swimmers who swam 2 strokes in the prior A Meet may choose:
    • 2 different events (events are defined as free, back, breast, fly for which the B meet are UNOFFICIAL or the Individual Medley)
  • A relay is not a stroke and participation in A meet relays does NOT impact eligibility/event selection at the B meet.
