Otters Weekly Update - Week of 6.24.19
Hello Otter Families,
The Otters kicked off the 2019 dual meet season against the Vienna Aquatic Club Gators this past Saturday. Although the team did not swim away with a victory, the Otters had a large number of impressive swims and best times! The swimmers really brought their "A Game" and wowed the coaches! The score was tied at 3 different times during the meet and came down to the relays. Otter spirit was high which helped keep the meet close. Thanks to everyone who stayed around to cheer the team until the end!
Below, please find several updates, reminders and schedules for the week:
Declaration of A Meet Availability: IMPORTANT - if there is a 1% chance that your swimmer will be available to swim in an A Meet, please go ahead and mark your swimmer as available (other sporting events or vacations sometimes get rescheduled at the last minute). Division 4 is an extremely tough division and we need to be able to build the strongest meet sheet possible every Saturday. It is much easier to scratch your swimmer at the last minute than it is to add them in. If swimmer availability changes after you have marked it for a given A Meet, please reach out immediately to the meet reps via email at [email protected]. 4th of July Relay Carnival: Unfortunately, we did not have enough swimmer participation to compete in the 4th of July Relay Carnival and we have removed ourselves from the meet. We're sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience this may have caused.
Afternoon Swim Practice Schedule (Tuesday & Thursday): Afternoon practices will be held Tuesdays & Thursdays for those swimmers who cannot make it to the morning practice or for those swimmers who want to have extra practice time in the water.
11 & Older: 5pm-6pm
10 & U: 6pm-6:45pm (Sorry this practice is not for pups)
Monday Event
B- Meet at Little Rocky Run: The first B-Meet of the season will be held @ Little Rocky Run. Specific details were provided from B Reps in a separate email.
Tuesday Event
Please plan on your swimmers staying about 20 minutes late after practice on Tuesday (this does not apply to Pups). There will be breakfast treats for the swimmers followed by the bag tag and ribbon distributions from the previous A & B Meets. If your swimmer is unable to attend, then please be sure to check your family folder for the bag tags/ribbons.
Wednesday Event
Kings Dominon: There will be a team outing to Kings Dominion! Please RSVP in SwimTopia by Monday evening (6/24) by clicking HERE. Tickets will be around $36. The coaches plan to depart for Kings Dominion from OSRC right after the last practice on Wednesday. Departure time should be around 11:30am. Your swimmer can follow the coaches down there or meet them there. Is your swimmer interested in going but needs a ride? Do you have space in your car for another swimmer(s)? If so, then please fill out the attached car pool spreadsheet in order to connect with other families. Please coordinate among yourselves. https://docs.
Friday Event
Pep Rally and Dinner: The Pep Rally theme this week is Wild Things and will start at 5:00pm on Friday. Swimmers are encouraged to dress in a creative costume that aligns with the theme. Swimmer of the Week and Best Costume awards will be handed out as well. Dinner will be provided for all swimmers (sorry we won't have enough for the parents!) and FUN FOR ALL so you don’t want to miss it!
Saturday A Meet & Senior Recognition
A Meet vs. Hiddenbrook @ OSRC: Our second A meet will be against Hiddenbrook at OSRC. Once the coaches have completed the A meet sheet/swimmer stroke selection, communication will go out to all families of selected swimmers no later than Wednesday. Senior Recognition will be held before the mixed age relay warm-up period.
Senior Recognition Lunch: Each year we celebrate our seniors by providing a big luncheon for them. This year's lunch will be held this Saturday, June 29th immediately following the A meet. We hope to have all families (regardless if you participated in the A Meet or not) join us after the meet and celebrate. The cost for the luncheon is $5 per person and hamburgers, hot dogs, sides and cake will be provided. The lunch is free for the families of seniors. Please plan to pay when you arrive at the luncheon (cash or checks only). Please RSVP by Thursday (6/27) at 5:00pm for this special lunch celebrating our seniors!! If you forget to RSVP, please come by anyway. No one will be turned away!
