Swim-A-Thon 2019
On Thursday, July 18, the coaches will be running the annual swim-a-thon during regular morning practices. The swim-a-thon this year will be conducted in honor of Daniel Nugent, Nick Highman’s brother who passed away earlier this year. Daniel was a member of the Oakton Otters Dive Team from inception. Donations will be made in memory of Daniel to the CJD Foundation, which supports families affected by Prion Disease. There will be two donation options, donations on a per lap basis or a flat donation.
On Thursday, swimmers will have two options:
OPTION 1: Donate a fixed amount per lap. In a specified time span (20 minutes for 8&U, 25 minutes for 9-10, 30 minutes for 11& over), swimmers will attempt to complete as many laps as possible. The total amount of donation will be equal to the amount per lap times the number of laps your child swam. All swimmers who do not choose Option 2 will participate, regardless of the amount donated. Your child does not need to donate to be able participate in this option. When your child finishes swimming, please ask your child to check in with a coach for the number of laps he or she swam.
OPTION 2: Donate a fixed dollar amount above $10. If a swimmer has donated $10 or more, they are eligible to swim in fun relays during the time frame of the swim-a-thon instead.
If you have not already, please RSVP on SwimTopia. Gretchen Van Brackle will be collecting donations on Thursday and in her family folder through Saturday, July 27. To submit your donation, complete the form that can be found in the Van Brackle family folder. Please make any checks payable to the CJD Foundation (you may write “in memory of Daniel Nugent” in the notes). Please bring your donation to the swim-a-thon or drop it into the Van Brackle family folder, in an envelope including the form and check or cash.
The coaches would like to set a goal of $2,000! Please come out to support this meaningful cause.
