The Otters had an exciting win over Mantua at home on Saturday. Thanks to all who came out to cheer and celebrate our amazing group of graduating seniors.
We have another full week ahead, complete with a B Meet, Divisional Relay Carnival, bowling, and a “Superhero and Princess”-themed pep rally on Friday night. Please read on for details! Please note the change in Wednesday’s practice schedule below!

DIVISIONAL RELAY CARNIVAL (June 28)
Please declare your swimmer’s availability by NOON TODAY for the Divisional Relay Carnival @ Little Hunting Park on June 28. Selected swimmers will be notified on Tuesday, June 27. We ask for your immediate attention to communications regarding this event because our league deadlines are immediate. We will communicate additional details Tuesday and Wednesday, to include additional practices for relay swimmers. This is one of the most exciting events of the season and the Otters look forward to defending our six-year division champion title!
Please also declare your swimmer’s availability for All Star Relay Carnival on Wednesday July 12.
PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAY (June 28)
Coach Laura has invited a guest coach to run a sprint clinic with our swimmers. Please note the changes to practice on this day (Wednesday). There WILL be Pups practice.
- 8:00-8:45 8&under
- 8:45-10:00 9/10 swimmers (selected 8U will be notified by Tuesday to join this practice)
- 9:45-11:00 11/12 & 13+ swimmers
BOWLING
Join the Otter coaches for a fun afternoon of bowling on Thursday at the Bowl America in Fairfax. Parents are responsible for swimmer transportation to and from the event. The cost is $10/swimmer (cash/check/venmo). Please PREPAY by cash (in a clearly marked envelope), check made out to OSRC and leave it in the Kaplan family folder, or Venmo to @Lara-Kaplan.
SENIOR BREAKFAST (Friday, June 30)
Attention all senior swimmers! Join the coaches for breakfast at Vienna Inn on Maple Ave in Vienna immediately following practice on Friday.
PEP RALLY (Friday, June 30)
We invite all the Otters and Otter Pups to join us on Friday night from 5:30-7:00 for our next pep rally of the season. The theme is “Superheroes and Princesses.'' Please RSVP. We will serve the swimmers subs for dinner. Our Otters of the Week will be announced and prizes will be given to the most spirited costumes!
SENIOR GROUP LOCK-IN UPDATE
Please check your email for an update sent Sunday, June 25. We ask that all parents complete the form regarding their swimmers’ planned participation.
DUAL A MEET @ HIDDENBROOK (Saturday, July 1)
The third A meet of the season will take place at Hiddenbrook on Saturday. Selected swimmers will be notified no later than noon on Wednesday. Please declare your availability ASAP.
NATIONAL ANTHEM
We welcome volunteers to sing or play our national anthem before home meets. Parents and swimmers are welcome. Please contact us if you are interested in performing at a home A or B meet.
WEEKLY REMINDERS
- Please plan on your swimmer staying 15-20 min after practice on Tuesday for donuts and any ribbons and bag tags.
- The 11/12 and 13+ practices include a dryland workout component. Please send your swimmers with sneakers.
SAFESPORT
The NSVL is committed to following SafeSport protocols to prevent misconduct and athlete abuse and harassment. All coaches aged 18+, as well as Team Reps, completed thorough and required SafeSport training in advance of the 2023 season. Parents, other volunteers, and swimmers are also encouraged to complete free SafeSport training and review Minor Athlete Abuse and Prevention Policies (MAAPP). As a reminder, all interactions between adults and swimmers at meets, practices, and other team events must be observable and interruptible.
SWIM NIGHT AT NATIONALS PARK
The Washington Nationals are hosting a Swim Night on July 7. A Swim Night ticket will include a Nats cherry blossom swim cap. Olympian Elizabeth Beisel will be in attendance and available for photo opportunities and questions. Click here to purchase tickets. This is NOT an Otter team event.
PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS
If you are looking for private swim lessons for your child, please contact one of our coaches. You can read their bios and get contact information here. You do not need to be on the swim team to have lessons with our coaches.
