Rep Report #8

The Otters are officially the 2023 Division 4 champions after clinching our undefeated season on Saturday in a match up against Lee Graham. Congratulations to Coaches Laura, Louis, Catherine and our entire talented coaching team on a perfect season record. This is no small feat in such a competitive division. We are proud that they achieved this while simultaneously creating an environment that promoted lots of fun, teamwork, and good sportsmanship for our swimmers. Way to go, Otters!!

Last One, Fast One! Good luck to all of our swimmers at tonight's final B Meet at Brookfield!

And that’s a wrap. After 7 weeks, 111 timer shifts, and 792 Tuesday donuts, the regular season comes to an end tomorrow. We hope you’ve enjoyed the season and are looking forward to relaxing weeks ahead filled with Otter memories. We recognize that the summer swim season is a sprint and that it takes a community of volunteers to pull off all of the meets, events, and activities for our children in such a short window of time. The Otter season would not be possible without all of your time and support, thank you.

In this edition:

  • Coaches Gifts & Scrapbook
  • Last day of practice (Tuesday)
  • Divisionals Swim Meet
  • End of Season Awards Banquet & Pool Party
  • Season long volunteer roles
  • 2023 Survey
  • 2024 Season

COACHES GIFTS

LAST CALL: Every season, we ask parents for a donation toward end of season gifts for our coaches. We want to reward our hard-working coaches for a great season. Unless otherwise noted, your donation will be split among our coaches. If you’d like, you may designate specific amounts via a note with your donation. Please consider making a donation before Friday, July 21. Thank you to those that have already generously donated!

There are 3 ways to donate:

  1. Cash or check to the Roth family folder (checks payable to Maggie Roth)
  2. Venmo: @Maggie-Roth-2 (*please indicate “coaches gift”)
  3. Give cash/check directly to Heather, Maggie, or Andrea

COACHES SCRAPBOOK

At the end of the season, we plan to present scrapbooks made by the kids to each of the coaches. There is a box of scrapbook paper on top of the swim team filing cabinet in the pool lobby. Each family is encouraged to take one piece of paper for each coach and decorate it however you like - feel free to draw pictures, use photos, just sign your name or write a nice note. Be creative! Deadline for submission is Thursday (7/20) in the Kim family folder. Any questions, please reach out to Ashley Kim at [email protected].

LAST DAY OF PRACTICE is TOMORROW (Tuesday, July 18)

The last day of practice for Otters and Pups will be Tuesday, July 21. Donuts will be served!

DIVISIONALS (Saturday, July 22)

Those swimmers who qualify for Divisionals will continue to have practice Wednesday through Friday. Selected swimmers will be notified by end of day Tuesday, along with details for the week ahead and Saturday’s meet.

END OF SEASON AWARDS BANQUET @ OSRC (Saturday, July 22)

The Otters end of season awards ceremony and pool party will take place this Saturday from 5-10PM. Please bring your own chairs and dinner to Waples Mill Elementary @ 5:00pm. The Otters often like to sit on towels up front with their friends. Please RSVP to this event by NOON on Wednesday. It is important that we know who will be there as we plan to expedite the awards ceremony by only recognizing those swimmers who are present.

Following the awards, there will be a pool party at OSRC for all Otter families. There will be light snacks, drinks, and dessert for both children and adults.

2023 SURVEY

Later this week, we will send a survey requesting your feedback on the season. Please be on the lookout. We want to hear from you!

2024 SUMMER SEASON

As you begin to plan ahead for summer 2024 (camps, sports and vacation commitments), please consider the swim team as you make these plans. The success of our team is dependent on having all of our swimmers available to swim. Our season is a short one, and our coaches would greatly appreciate having all of their swimmers available if needed for meets. The high-level 2024 NVSL schedule is available now online.

In closing, we wanted to say thank you again for all of your time and support this season. The Oakton Otters is a truly special team and that is because of the swimmers, parents, and coaches that participate.

We hope to see you next season!

Sincerely,

Heather, Maggie, and Andrea
